A typical first step might be to duplicate your current website in a mobile friendly format. This would involve the use of "responsive styles" or in other words, make the website adjust automatically to the size of the device that it is running on.

As an example, open this web page in different devices, on your PC, mobile phone and tablet and you will see that the content scales automatically depending on the device. Pay particular attention to the menu, which collapses automatically to be mobile friendly. Also to the "boxes" of content, which are side-by-side on the PC but which stack on top of each other on the smaller device.

Images scale as well. A full size image on the PC will scale proportionately when viewed on the smaller device.

Yup, everyone's going mobile. In fact, according to the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), there are 6.8 billion people on the planet. 5.1 billion own a cell phone but only 4.2 billion own a toothbrush! By 2015 there will be a mobile device for everyone on the planet!

  • It takes 26 hours for the average person to report a lost wallet. It takes 68 minutes for them to report a lost phone
  • There are more mobile phones on the planet than there are TV's
  • 70% of all mobile searches result in action within 1 hour

  • 61% of mobile users who find your business while searching online end up calling the business
    • 59% of those users end up stopping into the business
    • 50% of the mobile users who found your business online end up converting into a purchasing customer
  • Mobile coupons get 10 times the redemption rate of traditional coupons

  • It's projected that in 2013, tablet devices will make up nearly 21% of the mobile market

The trend to mobile is happening right now. It's time to ask yourself:

  • Are my customers accessing my website or social media channels with smart phones and/or tablets? (HINT: Check your Google Analytics and Social media analytics)
  • Would mobile marketing fit with my marketing strategy?
  • Could I improve my customer's experience with a mobile app or website?
