Dedication: Commandant C.V. (Charlie) Hochapfel, SA Infantry Corps The Hochapfel family, his wife Elaine and their two daughters, have done me the great honour of asking me to pen a short dedication to husband, father, friend and great soldier - the late Charles Vernon Hochapfel. I remember Charlie, as we all knew him, as a man of few words - doing his job quietly and diligently . Charlie was a career soldier; professional, loyal, reliable, and honourable. His great passion in life waas his family; the troops under his command - black, white, national serviceman, permanent force, whoever - being anatural extension of those three that he loved most. And Charlie, dedicated warrior that he was, passed on to higher service in the manner tht a warrior would wish to go; in action. T remember too share rare moments relaxing together "on the border", as comrades; his quick wit a special gift and his characteristic chuckle never to be forgotten. I was proud to serve with you, Charlie, and honour your memory.
